The insurgents opened fire after gaining entrance into premises of the College of Administrative and Business Studies in Potiskum, the capital of Yobe State at about 8am on Friday, May 8, 2015, according to The Associated Press.
A suicide bomber was said to have blown himself up inside the school compound while a second explosion occurred within a hostel in the school but the students were already in their classrooms.
The attack has been confirmed by a security officer and a hospital worker, who said that five students were shot while another 45 are being treated for injuries sustained as they jumped out of windows and over walls to escape.
12 people have been left injured AND ONE DEAD in Potiskum, Yobe State after a gunman opened fire outside a school.
“We have evacuated 12 people with serious gunshot wounds to hospital from the scene of the shooting attack,” a police officer, who chose to remain anonymous, said.
“We had just started a class when we heard gunshots coming from the direction of the gates and we instantly realised we were under attack which made us to rush out of the class,” a student,Tijjani Musa, said.
Some residents say three students were killed but this has been denied by police in the state.
The police also said, in a statement issued in response, that they had arrested two suspects and recovered one AK 47 rifle and ammunition from them.
