Guiness World Record: China Beekeeper covers himself with 1.1 million bees weighing 109kg

IN just his undies, a beekeeper covered himself with almost 1.1 million bees weighing 109kg and withstood being stung more than 2000 times to set a new Guinness World Record.
Gao Bingguo has caused a buzz as his body temperature rose to a dangerous 60C — the average norm being 37C — to reclaim the world record for “most bees on a human body” in Liangzhuang, Tai’an city in China’s Shandong province.

The 55-year-old beekeeper, smoking a cigarette to keep the bees from stinging his lips, began his Guiness World Record attempt by placing about a dozen queen bees on his body in order to attract the other bees brought by more than 20 beekeepers to him.
Boxes of bees were later dumped at his feet in increasingly large numbers as the bees crawled on to his body.
After three hours before his body was totally covered with bees, with just his nose and mouth evidence that there was a human being beneath the mass of bees.
The almost 1.1 million bees weighed a total of 109.1kg, smashing the previous record of 85.5kg.
Each kilo of weight amounts to about 10,000 bees.
After shedding his “bee jacket”, Gao was delighted with his success.
For such an apparently niche world record “the number of bees on a human body” is keenly contested.
Gao reclaimed the world record after his previous best — set last June — was broken by another bee fanatic.
