President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Nigeria today for Bavaria, Germany, where he is to attend the G7 Summit, on invitation from the president of the group and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The president’s itinerary way included in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
The invitation is a clear indication of the international community’s willingness to cooperate with the new government of Nigeria,” the statement said.
As Nigeria is not part of the group, President Buhari will not participate in the main meetings but will have the opportunity to meet world leaders, including US President Barrack Obama on the sidelines of the meetings.
“He (Buhari) is in a group of seven other heads of state who were called in as guests. He will equally be holding key side meetings with some of the seven Heads of State who will be convened at the summit.
“The international community is obviously acknowledging Nigeria’s significant role in global affairs, especially with the recent change in government,” the statement read.
