LASU STUDENTS' UNION DEMAND APPOLOGY FROM PUNCH NEWSPAPER!!!

About two weeks ago, news have been trending through the social media about a lasu staff who killed his wife, but zinok247media spoke to the Secretary of the house commitee on information, strategy and special duties (LASUSU) HON.DARAMOLA FADULILAHI AYINDE on the matter.

(Read below)

Our undiluted and unresolved attention has been drawn to a reportage in The Punch Newspaper with the Headline "Police arrest LASU worker for lover’s death" on the
March 14, 2016 edition by Afeez Hanafi which seeks to display sheer and biased prejudice against Lagos State University.

- Having perused through the news story, we discovered that the man in question has been arrested for an issue that happened in Badagry and resides no reportorial relationship with the  institution for allegedly being accused of being culpable in the murder of the wife of another man whom he was also allegedly dating.

- The issue that gives LASU a secondary relation to the story is when the husband of the murdered mentioned that the accused is a staff of LASU of which the reporter should have contacted the Registrar to confirm whether he is a staff which is only to confirm the claims by the husband and not to allow it cloud the story as there is no Maxim to warrant such intimidation and defamation.

There is no basis under which the reporter would report that an official of LASU has been arrested which clearly shows that there is a media onslaught in reportage of stories directly or unnecessarily and irrelevantly affecting LASU.

- "POLICE arrest MAN over lover's death" would have been better. If the alleged offense happened in LASU, it would have been different. The remains of the deceased was not found in the institution which might have been a reason to paint LASU in the bad light.

- The reporter introduced the news story with an erroneous headline that displays a ferocious vendetta on the institution "Police Arrest LASU worker". The incident never happened inside, near, opposite of around LASU which has no relation whatsoever to the story.

- The reporter showed gross incompetence and unethical practice by plaguing LASU as a relative variable in that news story by not confirming whether it is true that the accused is indeed a bonafide staff member of the school from the Registrar of the institution.

- The reporter diverted the attention of a story that happened in Badagry to lamely develop a negative tag on LASU like it's been done over the years.

- The reporter's unprofessional and reckless writing attitude made him not place a call to the Registrar to ascertain whether the accused is actually a staff or include that he tried contacting.

We demand an apology from The Punch Newspaper and the reporter and editor that made this erroneous show of professional negligence and unprofessional ethical indiscipline towards the leading State University in the nation. We will be made to believe that they are being sponsored to be wild against LASU in newspaper reportage. The news story is devoid of objectivity and professionalism and biased.

Daramola Fadlullahi Ayinde
Secretary, House Committee on Information, Strategy and Special Duties, LASUSU.
